The Edgecombe County Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the boardroom at 412 Pearl St. in Tarboro. The board normally meets the second Monday of the month, but the meeting was moved because of the Veterans’ Day holiday on Nov. 11.
An item for information on the board’s agenda is the READY accountability results for the 2012-2013 school year. The test results will be announced on Nov. 7. With the new school accountability model and new student assessments aligned with the Standard Course of Study, significant drops in scores are anticipated. Others items for information are a recognition of West Edgecombe Middle School as the focus school of the month and the greenhouse at North Edgecombe High School.
The board will take action on several items of business at Monday’s meeting:
Approval of the South Edgecombe Middle School fundraiser to sell Krispy Kreme coupons on Nov. 5-18, 2014.
Approval of the Colonial Theatre/ Veterans’ Museum using Martin Middle School from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Nov. 23 for a Christmas show.
Approval of Exceptional Children program contracts for 2013-2014.
Approval of the qualified observers list for 2013-2014.
Approval of the purchase and installation of athletic field lights at North Edgecombe High School and SouthWest Edgecombe High School in the amount of $193,000.
The board then will go into closed session to discuss personnel, student transfers and school improvement safety components written recommendations.
The board will then return to open session to vote on those items, as well as the approval of the school improvement plans for all 14 schools in the district for 2013-2014. The plans were created based on a model of continuous improvement. Progress on schools’ goals in the plans is reported quarterly.
