McCrory brings gubernatorial campaign to Edgecombe County

TARBORO — It’s 26 days until North Carolinians go to the polls to elect a new governor and the campaign — with actual candidates and not surrogates — is finally coming to Edgecombe County.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory and other GOP candidates will be on-hand from 6-9 p.m. Friday for a Conservative Candidates Rally at The Conference Center in Edgecombe County, located on Pleasant Hill Road east of Sharpsburg.

“We want everybody to come out and have a good time and meet our candidates,” said former U.S. Rep. and former N.C. Lt. Gov. Jim Gardner. Gardner serves as one of McCrory’s state campaign chairmen.

In addition to McCrory, the former mayor of Charlotte and an unsuccessful candidate for governor four years ago, a number of other candidates are scheduled to attend, including 13th Congressional District candidate George Holding.

Organizers also said State Rep. Jeff Collins, R-Nash, and State Sen. Buck Newton, R-Wilson, plan to attend.

Event organizer Skip Carney described the rally as "a family event" and said he hopes it will draw people from Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson counties. Carney said there will be free food, live Bluegrass music and other activities, such as face painting for children.

Early voting in the Nov. 6 general election gets under way a week from today and ends on Saturday, Nov. 3.
