Tarboro, Princeville police search for shooting suspects

TARBORO — The Tarboro and the Princeviille police departments are searching for suspects involved in two shooting incidents in their respective jurisdictions that occurred five minutes apart Wednesday night. No one was struck by the gunfire and investigators say that at this time, there is no reason to speculate the two incidents are related.

The first incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. in the Southern Terrace Community in Princeville. Princeville Police Chief Joey Petway said someone in a dark-colored SUV fired shots that hit two houses on Lynch Drive and Shaw Drive. Petway said the owner of the homes were not the target. He said the target may have been someone walking in the area.

As of Thursday, no one has reported having been shot at to Princeville Police Department.

"At this moment, we don't know who the suspect(s) are or who they were shooting at," Petway said. "Nor can we say whether or not it was gang related."

Petway said residents were inside the homes when the incident occurred. In one of the homes, the bullet penetrated inside the house and lodged in the bathroom of the master bedroom.

An investigation revealed that a 9mm handgun was used in the shooting. Petway said bullet shells were collected from the scene.

"That was a very dangerous situation because you can't determine where a stray bullet goes," Petway said. "We are not taking this incident lightly. But, we need the citizens help. The only way that we can solve this is for some to give us information. If you saw anything, please contact us as soon as possible. We will keep your name to the strictest of confidence.

Five minutes later, the Tarboro Police Department responded to gun shot fired at Pender Square Apartment No. 3. According to Sgt. Al Braxton, three cars were hit by the bullets. No one was in the vehicles during the shooting, Braxton said.
