TARBORO — A verbal altercation turned deadly around 9:15 Wednesday night when Ezekias Marzi Tillery was shot and killed after confronting Jestrestric Clevon Jones on Walnut Lane in Midlakes Trailer Park.

The altercation began when the 25-year-old Tillery, of 50 Falls Lane, approached Jones, 31, of 112 Fishing Lane. According to reports, the men began shooting at one another as the situation became more heated. Tillery was fatally wounded in the exchange of gunfire while Jones and a third person — 48-year-old Christopher Angelo Bottoms — was hit by a stray bullet as he was trying to leave the scene. Witnesses say Jones and Bottoms were seated and talking to one another when Tillery approached them.

Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene and at about 9:50, Jones and Bottoms were both transported to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital. Both were later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Tillery was a known drug dealer by the sheriff's office and had been arrested in two roundups conducted by the sheriff's office drug task force. His most recent arrest came in August when he was one of 22 suspected drug dealers taken into custody.

According to court documents, Tillery had 13 drug charges pending against him at the time of his death — including four counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, four counts of felony sell cocaine, two counts of maintain a vehicle/dwelling/place to store controlled substances, possession with the intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, conspire to sell and deliver cocaine and felony possession of cocaine.

????  Wouldn't this be self-defense????

There is only two other murders that have happened in Edgecombe County this year. Those murders occurred on March 17 in Princeville, when thirty-three year-old Quantellis Carr and 31-year-old Jasmine Chesson were gunned down inside their residence execution style.
