Diane LeFiles, is joining the team at North East Carolina Prep School (NECP) as the school’s director of communications on July 1. Most recently, she has served as director of communication at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount,
“I’m very excited about going to work with the prep school. It’s a public charter school and has great potential for a positive impact on Edgecombe County and I’m looking forward to being a part of that,” LeFiles said. She said she has enjoyed her two-year tenure at Wesleyan, but NECP presented “a great opportunity that I could not refuse.”
LeFiles will not replace Taro Knight, NECP’s current director of communication/ community outreach. Knight will still handle community outreach next school year, while serving as director of athletics and director of middle school. LeFiles will share some of Knight’s current duties, while taking on additional duties as director of communications.
“Diane LeFiles brings a wealth of experience in educational communication to the NECP team,” said Knight. “She will help us with securing corporate partners, developing a Global Education Alliance with China, and advise the administration in all communication matters. We look forward to her enhancing the team that Mr. (John) Westberg has put together."
John Westberg, NECP’s executive director, said LeFiles “adds a lot of expertise in dealing with parents” and “understands education.” He said LeFiles would represent NECP at Parent Teacher Organization meetings and write grants and seek out sources of funding for the school.
“I think it completes our leadership team to this point,” Westberg said. “It takes the load off a lot of us so we’re not spread too thin. It’s helping the whole team so we can focus in on our own responsibilities.”
Knight, for one, looks forward to tackling his new responsibilities, among them overseeing the school’s brand new interscholastic athletics program and ensuring that the school’s food services department and transportation are operating smoothly.
Prior to serving as director of communications at North Carolina Wesleyan, LeFiles had the role of director of community relations for Edgecombe County Public Schools, from 1991 until 2011. She holds two degrees from Florida State University – a Bachelor of Science in home economics education and a Master of Science in clothing and textiles. LeFiles has a background in both the education and the communication fields; she has worked as a technical writer and advertising and public relations manager, and has taught vocational classes at the middle school and high-school levels,
