Tanning booth peeper headed to court


TARBORO — Thomas Gray Owens, 29, is scheduled to appear in Edgecombe County District Court Wednesday for a bonding hearing on four counts of secretly peeping into room occupied by another person.

Owens was charged April 19 with four counts of secret pepping at B&G Fitness Tanning room. and peeped in the same room while it was occupied by two females.

According to arrest warrants, Owens placed a recording device in a tanning room on April 5 and April 19 for the purpose of creating a photographic image of of the victims without permission. On the same days the warrants state that he peeped in the room by using a photographic device.

Owens was arrested at B&G on April 19. He was placed in Edgecombe County Detention Center, where he remains, under a $100,000 secured bond.

Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.

According to the N.C. Court System website, the suspect does not have any prior convictions. If Owens is convicted he could get up to 6 to 8 months per charge in prison.

B&G is fully equipped fitness facility with exercise equipment and tanning beds. The establishment was set to close at year's end before new owners purchased it,
