Deputies caught robber running out of house

TARBORO — Edgecombe County Sheriff Department deputies' fast reaction to an activated house alarm led to the arrest of two robbery suspects Wednesday after noon.

According to reports, an alarm at a house on Old Wilson Road around 4:48 p.m. triggered Edgecombe County Sherriff's Department to dispatch deputies to there.

When the deputies arrived, they reportedly saw a man running from the backdoor of the house with some property. The deputies apparently lost sight of the suspect. In a joint effort with the Sheriff's Department, a Rocky Mount K-9 unit was called to the scene for assistance. The K-9 reportedly tracked Jonathon Blake Burnette, 26, 392 Meyers Road, Rocky Mount, in the woods near the scene. A stolen gun was also recovered there. Blake was arrested by deputies.

Witnesses reported to investigators that Burnette was aided by an accomplice. Further investigation led to the arrest of Mark Allen Coley, Jr., 23, 3959 Pleasant Hill Road, Rocky Mount, on Thursday at a residence on Myers Road in Rocky Mount.

Burnette and Coley were charged with breaking and entering, larceny after break and enter, carrying a concealed weapon and resist obstruct delay public officer. Both are being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under $100,000 secured bond.
