Edmondson takes District 7 BOE seat

TARBORO — John W. Edmondson, Jr. was sworn in as District 7 Board of Education representative at Monday evening’s meeting. District 7 includes Bulluck Elementary, West Edgecombe Middle and SouthWest Edgecombe High Schools.

After the Honorable Carol Allen White, Edgecombe County Clerk of Court, swore in Edmondson, he took the vacant seat at the board table and went to work for the remainder of the meeting. Edmondson will finish out the remainder of Faye Taylor’s four-year term, which ends in June. Taylor tendered her resignation in December.

Edmondson previously served on the board from 2006 to 2010, and he said he has worked with most of the current board members.

“I look forward to working with everybody,” Edmondson said. “I think Mr. Farrelly was a good decision (as school superintendent) and I think he’s got the school system going in the right direction.”

Edmondson earned the District 7 seat in a 5-1 vote against contender Marva G. Scott, who is the director of the Edgecombe County Department of Social Services. Olga Dickens cast the only vote for Scott.

Edmondson plans to run against Scott for the open four-year board seat in the May election. Scott has already filed.
