BATTLEBORO — BATTLEBORO — A love triangle turned sour when a man shot and killed another man at the home of a woman who lived at Country Estates Trailer Park in Battleboro.

According to Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight, Antonio Moore, 30, Lot, 106, Country Estate Trailer Park, shot James Brockington, Jr., 29, in a bedroom of the woman's mobile home.

Moore turned himself in around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. He was charged with 2nd degree murder and placed in Edgecombe County Detention Center without bond.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when the suspect went to the woman's house and knocked on the door and the woman would not let him in. After several pleas for the woman to open the door failed, the suspect broke through the door and pushed himself past the woman and a male relative of the woman and went in a bedroom," Knight said. Once there, he shot the victim, Knight said. When investigators arrived on the scene, the victim was lying dead on the bed.

Moore, who lives in the same neighborhood, fled on foot, Knight said.

Around noon Sunday, a light at the front door of the house was on. The neighborhood appeared to be the same as any other — children were riding their bikes, neighbors were walking and some stood in their yards.

A resident, who did not want to release his name due to the threat of possible retaliation, said he heard the commotion after the shooting but he didn't go to the house to see what was going on. He said he was surprised that the murder occurred in his neighborhood.

"It's pretty quiet around here. Nothing like that happens around here," he said. "That was bad. Both of them was wrong."

The murder is the first in Edgecombe County this year.
