B&G employee caught video taping customers

TARBORO — The Edgecombe Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 29-year-old Speed man on two counts of peeping.

According to a press release issued by Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight, Thomas Gray Owens, an employee of B&G Fitness, secretly video taped customers at the establishment. The report did not give a time frame of the incident or what area of the establishment the taping occurred. Knight said during a telephone interview that Owens was arrested at B&G. The suspect is being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.

At press time, Knight said, "Right now, I'm withholding additional information to protect the victims and keep from jeopardizing the case." He said additional charges are pending."

B&G official Facebook page stated, "In partnership with authorities, B & G Fitness is investigating an employee’s misconduct while on duty. The safety and well-being of our clients is our top priority and we have zero tolerance for any inappropriate behavior. The local sheriff’s department is now handling the situation and the employee has been terminated. We will provide additional information as allowed, as this is currently an ongoing investigation."

B&G is fully equipped fitness facility with tanning beds. The establishment was near closing its door before new owners purchased it in February.
