The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at Sugarbunks Internet Cafe' (formerly Lucky Land) Tuesday on NC 33 NW after operators were conducting business in violation of state law.
During the search, officer seized over $13,000 in cash, six standup poker machines, 46 computers used to play the games, two cashier terminals, one prize server and the main server that is hooked to all the game terminals.
The sheriff's office charged the owner, 62-year-old Tony Blackley, and three of his employees, 35-year-old Joyce Ann Harris, 40-year-old Sandra Dickens and 28-year-old Eric Crisp with two misdemeanors.
The first charge was conducting a sweepstakes through the use of an entertaining display, including the entry process or reveal of a prize and the second charge was placing into operation an electronic machine or device to promote a sweepstakes that in conducted through the use of an entertaining display and including the entry process or the reveal of a prize.
Under North Carolina law it considers the business illegal even through numerous court challenges to the law that was passed in December 2012.
