TARBORO — The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division made seven arrests Monday, which included two juveniles, that stem from two shooting incidents that occurred at Pioneer Court Apartments and Walter Street, where two houses were struck by gunfire in retaliation to a fight that had taken place earlier.

"These detectives worked extremely hard on this case to get these suspects off the streets," Sheriff James Knight said. "I am very impressed with the job they did and how quick they solved the case."

According to Knight, both shootings happened Jan. 15 in the Princeville communities. The detectives believe that the case is going to be gang related from the ongoing investigation.

The sheriff's office was asked to conduct the investigation because Princeville's manpower doesn't allow them to investigate felony cases like this, because of the shortage of officers.

As detectives started to investigate, tips from the community started coming in  which helped them solve the case, Knight said.

Monday, law enforcement arrested two juveniles, a 14-year-old and 15-year-old, whose names weren't released due to their age, and charged them with shooting into an occupied dwelling and communicating threats.

The sheriff's office also charged, Jesse Whitehead, Jr., 22, of 603 Newton Ave., Princeville, with discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. He was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention center under a $100,000 secured bond.
