ROPER, NC — ROPER, NC - Sarah Elizabeth Owens and Joseph Richard Smolenski, III were united in holy matrimony on May 25, 2013, at the bride’s home on Albemarle Beach, Roper, NC. The Reverend William Smyth, of Columbia, NC officiated.  Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Roanoke River Maritime Museum in Plymouth, NC, hosted by the parents of the bride.  

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ebby Owens of Roper, NC. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Richard W. Bailey and the late Mrs. Virginia DeWire Bailey of Harrisburg, PA and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Lloyd Owens of Plymouth, NC. The groom is the son of Ms. Janet Smolenski and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smolenski, Jr. of Raleigh, NC.  He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mihailin of Oyster Bay, NY and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smolenski, Sr. of New Hyde Park, NY.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Jaime Miller, friend of the bride, of Cary, NC. Bridesmaids were friends of the bride Mrs. Rachael House, of Burlington, KY and Miss Natasha Greenway, of Fuquay Varina, NC.  The best man was Mr. Michael Novarro, friend of groom, of Irving, TX. Groomsmen were friends of the groom Mr. Adam House, of Burlington, KY and Mr.Seth Burden, of Raleigh, NC.  Banner carriers were cousins of the bride Miss Sadie Owens, of Tarboro, NC and Miss Stella Bailey, of Harrisburg, PA. Register attendant was Miss Rachel Miller, cousin of the bride, of Evanston, IL.  Wedding greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Miller, uncle and aunt of the bride, of Flemington, NJ.  Scripture readers were Mr. Joseph Smolenski, Jr., father of the groom, of Raleigh, NC and Miss Bailey Foote, cousin of the bride, of Rocky Mount, NC. Ms. Brenda Bullock of Roper, NC was mistress of ceremonies. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Bradshaw, of Plymouth, NC provided the wedding music.  

The bride graduated from North Carolina State University in 2006 and from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2011. She is employed as a nurse at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.  The groom graduated from North Carolina State University in 2003 and from Fayetteville Tech CC in 2012. He manages Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh, his family’s owned business.

The couple will honeymoon in New England, boating off the coast of Newport, RI and Martha’s Vineyard. The newlyweds reside in Raleigh, NC.
