Play: The Tar River Players will present "Anne of Green Gables" in McIntyre Auditorium at Edgecombe Community College at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Cantaloupe Festival: Saturday: Second annual Eastern Carolina Cantaloupe Festival sponsored by the Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce downtown Tarboro on Courthouse Square and Saint Andrew Street. Food, crafts vendors, karaoke contest, King and Queen, children's amusements, entertainment. Call 823-7241 to participate or volunteer.
Tarboro Talent Show: 7 p.m. July 11 in Keihin Auditorium at Edgecombe Community College. Tickets $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students under 16.
Summer enrichment opportunities for young people sponsored by Edgecombe County Cultural Arts Council:
• July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1: Two Summer Art Camps, coordinated by Maureen O'Neill. Classes for ages 4-6 (Karen Pfaendler), Ages 7-9 (Dazzala Knight), Ages 10-12 (Genevieve Govoni); ages 13-17 ( Maureen O’Neill). Classes (limit 10) Calvary Church Memorial Hall from 9 a.m. until noon. $40 for ECCAC members ($75 for both sessions), $65 non-members ($100 for both).
• July 7-11 and July 28-Aug. 1: Manners Camp With Haffye Cox at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 9:30 a.m. until noon. Final day will include a luncheon with invited parent(s). For ages 7-10 (limit eight) $65 for ECCAC members, $90 for non-members.
• Aug. 4-15: Summer Acting Workshops conducted by troupe members of the Tar River Players. Ages 3-6, ages 7-10 and ages 11–15. Clark Hall at Calvary Episcopal Church, 9 a.m. until noon. $45 per child 2/$70 (siblings).
