Vikings defense superb in 52-0 rout
Tarboro has one objective that requires five steps – win the first four rounds of the 1-AA NCHSAA state playoffs to make it back to the state championship game and win the title.
The No. 1 seeded Vikings played near perfect Friday night when they completed step one and blew out No. 8 seed Spring Creek 52-0 in the first round.

Playoff time has arrived for high school teams across the state. Tarboro and North Edgecombe earned home games in the first round, while SouthWest Edgecombe hits the road on a three hour journey westward to play the No. 1 seeded team in the 2-AA East bracket.

The No. 1 seeded Tarboro Vikings have been very productive in the playoffs the past five years where they compiled an impressive 23-2 record during that stretch. The stretch includes three consecutive state championships (2009, 2010 and 2011) and a tough 24-20 loss last season in their final 2-A title appearance.

Tarboro is coming off a great journey in 2-A football, where they made five consecutive appearances in the NCHSAA state championship game – winning three straight under coach Jeff Craddock. This season Craddock and his Vikings have embarked on a new journey, which is making it back to the state championship game, but in a different classification – the 1-AA.
