FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars golfer Ryan Chatt showcased his talents last weekend in Cary when he participated in the Raleigh Junior Open-Lochmere through the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.
Chatt finished third overall in the boy's 15-18 year old division at The Lochmere Golf Club and played through poor soggy course conditions after severe rain had hit the area. The first day of the tournament was frigid, but fortunately the winds were held to a minimum.
Sunday's conditions were even colder, but Chatt had an impressive second day on the course and shot 74 giving him a 15 over tournament total.
Chatt led in two different categories during the event. He had the most birdies with 5 and the most par breakers at 13.9 percent.
Luke Farley won the boy’s 15-18 year old division beating out Robert Hickok by one stroke. Farley shot the lowest score on day one with a 75. After battling Hickok all of round 2 Farley was able to seal the win on hole 18 to end the tournament with an overall score of 12 over. Farley led the field with an astonishing Par 3 performance shooting an impressive 3.12 average score for the weekend. Robert Hickok finished in second place for the tournament after shooting an overall 13 over. Hickok led the field in a number of statistics including a Par 4 average of 4.36, most pars at 25, and a par or better percentage of 72.2 percent.
This tournament, as with all of our tournaments was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Winners of all three divisions received an automatic bid into the 2013 HJGT Tour Championship. Critical points toward year end honors and the Hurricane Cup were distributed across each age division.
