TARBORO — Camden Grant and her boyfriend Ricky Davis, Jr. caught a 10 pound carp at a state wildlife pond Wednesday morning off of Highway 33 just outside of Tarboro. Grant said she caught the fish on a piece of shrimp around 10:30 a.m.

PINETOPS – Second-year coach Anthony Burns has seen his SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars play up and down all season. Wednesday night, he saw glimpses of what he hopes will be a continuous thing when they handed the Bertie Falcons their first loss of the season when they defeated them 60-54.
Cougars, Warriors split on hardwood
LEGGETT – The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars didn't know how to react in the first half when they tried continuously to pull away from the North Edgecombe Warriors, but just couldn't find a way.
Lady Cougars thump Kings; boys fall hard
PINETOPS – The SouthWest Edgecombe Lady Cougars got their second win of the season Saturday when they thumped Victory Christian Center 67-13.
Lady Vikings commit 33 turnovers in loss
The Tarboro Lady Vikings had trouble controlling the basketball Wednesday night against the Nash Central Lady Bulldogs. Tarboro committed 33 turnovers and Nash Central turned those Viking miscues into 27 points. Nash Central took control of the game from the outset and defeated Tarboro 65-34.
Warriors split with Trojans on hardwood
LEGGETT – The North Edgecombe Warriors have played two games and had just four practices. At times during their second game Tuesday night against Southeast Halifax it showed. The Warriors missed numerous chances to put the game away from the free throw line where they went 13 for 29. The allowed the Trojans to hang around, but the Warriors were able to put it away in the fourth quarter with a 42-36 win.
Gurley scores four TDs in Bulldogs win
ATLANTA (AP) — Tarboro native and Georgia Bulldog sophomore tailback Todd Gurley ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns, including two scores after regulation. And Georgia rallied after trailing by 20 points in the first half to beat Georgia Tech 41-34 in overtime on Saturday night.
Vikings eliminated from playoffs
The Tarboro Vikings had the tides turned on them Friday night in the third round of the NCHSAA 1-AA playoffs when they were eliminated from the playoffs after they were defeated 35-10 by the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs.
Cougars boys win; girls fall
PINETOPS – SouthWest Edgecombe came to play, but they didn't have a lot of energy during the first half. After a halftime speech where Cougars coach Anthony Burns told his team they needed to play with more energy on both ends of the floor, the Cougars opened up their lead in the second half with that extra energy and went on to defeat Southern Nash 67-54.
Hoop try-outs at Parks and Rec
The Tarboro Parks and Recreation Department will have tryouts for youth basketball leagues Dec. 2 through Dec. 5 at the Braswell Center on Western Boulevard.
