Vike netters remain in tie for first


TARBORO — Tarboro maintained themselves Wednesday against the Northampton Jaguars in their final Two Rivers Conference match of the regular season. Tarboro dominated in both singles and doubles en-rout to a 9-0 victory.

"We used this match to try some new ideas and hone some skills on the court in preparation for our upcoming playoff match with Riverside," Tarboro coach Wendy Armstrong said. "We dominated in both singles and doubles."

Tarboro's No. 1 seed Shayla Thorne improved to 5-1 in the conference after she defeated the Jaguars No. 1 seed Molly Leggett 8-4. No. 2 seed Hannah Whitehurst also improved to 5-1 after defeating her opponent Bethany Martin 8-1.

No. 3 seed Michelle Nguyen and No. 4 seed Kaylyn Norville continued their winning streaks in the conference. Both players remain perfect with 6-0 record after beating their opponents handily, 8-1 and 8-0.

Whitehurst and Norville also stayed unbeaten in the conference in doubles action. They won 8-0 and are hoisting a 6-0 record heading into the conference tournament.

Tarboro plays Riverside Monday to decide who gets the No. 1 spot in the conference heading into dual team competitions next week.
