Vikings, Cougars compete in 2-A state meet

TARBORO — The Tarboro Vikings and SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars had six girls apiece competing in the NCHSAA 2-A state track meet in Greensboro Friday at North Carolina A&T State University.

A'Jah Williams competed in the girls long jump where she finished 6th with a jump of 17.01.50.

Williams, Ebbony Hanson, Tyanna Lewis and Makia Deloatch competed in the girl's 4x200 meter relay and the 4x100 meter relay.

In the 4x100 the Vikings finished in 5th place with a time of 50.08. SouthWest finished 8th in the event with a time of 51.30. Ariell Johnson, Tia Everett, Rashawnda Pevey and Jessica Jacobs ran in the event for the Cougars.

In the 4x200 meter relay event, Tarboro did not finish the event and the Cougars finished in 12th place with a time of 1:51.19. Johnson, Everett, Pevey and Cazmear Allen ran in the event for SouthWest.

Tarboro finished 15th in the 4x400 event with a time of 4:33.40. Hanson, Deloatch, Lewis and Jessica Miller ran in that event.

Cougar Catherine Armstrong won four wheelchair events. She won the girl's 100 meter dash wheelchair, 800 meter wheelchair, shot put wheelchair and discus throw wheelchair.

Armstrong is judged by the times on the 100 meter and 800 meter events and if she beats a set time then she wins. In the shot put and discus throw Armstrong surpassed records in both events.

Armstrong is the only participant in the girl's wheelchair events.
