Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsman (TASS) is, in my opinion, the best entertainment bargain in town. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, or does business in the Edgecombe County area. It’s a group of like-minded individuals that encourages and promotes fishing fun.
Don’t be fooled by the name. Freshwater activities are included and enjoyed too. Annual membership is only $25, which includes your entire family. Learn more at www.tassclub.com.
June saw two exciting annual events on the TASS calendar; Pell’s Pond Party and the Mann’s Harbor Trout Tournament.
Lisa and Pell Guill generously open their beautiful property and well-stocked pond on Howard Avenue Extension for an evening of family fishing-fun. About eighty people enjoyed this year’s festivities. Forty rod & reel combos were handed out to children, and bait was provided. Everyone caught fish!
Hot dogs, pizza, and soft drinks rounded out the perfect evening in picture-perfect weather. The Guill's are to be commended for sponsoring this annual worthwhile community get-together.
The TASS Mann’s Harbor Trout Tournament was in late June. My inbox was full of reports of speckled trout busting baits in the Mann’s Harbor area in late May and June. Several reported 100 plus fish days. The only complaints I heard were most of the fish were on the small side. However, on any day I can catch more than a hundred fish, I would have a hard time finding anything to complain about.
Robert Cherry and Curtis Edmondson had a top-notch day on the water during the Mann’s Harbor Trout Tournament, having won first place overall (6.78), largest trout (2.20), and largest drum (3.02) honors. Greg Bottoms and Robert Kelly boated the biggest flounder at 2.32 pounds.
John Dupree did his usual fine job organizing and managing this tournament.
See you on the water, my friend!
