Tarboro falls to Cedar Ridge

TARBORO — The No. 1 seeded Tarboro Vikings tennis team fell to No. 3 seeded Cedar Ridge Tuesday in duals team action. Cedar Ridge defeated the Vikings 5-1, which ends the Vikings season.

Cedar Ridge won every singles match except the No. 2 seed, where Paul Nguyen put away his opponent in three sets.

Tarboro's No. 1 seed Lane Long, struggled during his two sets. Long never led in either set and struggled to score points because of unforced errors.

Long, who is a senior, isn't done with his career just yet though. He will participate in the individuals championships matches this weekend in Cary at the Cary Tennis Center.

He is scheduled to take on Levi Bruff from Central Davidson. If Long wins, he will continue to move on through the bracket until he is defeated.

There are 16 top singles players from the state 2-A in tennis competing for the top honor in high school in each division.

Last year Long was defeated in his first match, but hopes to get his game back on track and prevail this year.

Also playing is Tarboro's doubles team that consist of Nguyen and Robbie Collins.

They will play Robbie Whitlock and Shaun Howell from Cuthbertson.

Matches are schedule to begin at 9 a.m. Friday.
