Tarboro Lady Vikings tennis team is back at its winning ways again. They have been a tough opponent to beat the last several years and this year they are starting off on the right track once again.
Tarboro is under the direction of a new coach, Wendy Armstrong. She is the third coach in three years for the Lady Vikings, but that hasn't seemed to be a problem for them. After Tuesday's match, she seems to have them right in the mix of where they need to be this early in the season.
Tarboro shutdown the Southern Nash Lady Firebirds Tuesday when they beat them 9-0.
Tarboro's No. 1 seed Shayla Thorne eased by her opponent Crystal Rodriguez. Thorne won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Vikings No. 2 seed Hanna Whitehurst had the toughest of the six single's matches. She defeated her opponent in straights sets, but it didn't come easy. Whitehurst won 6-4, 6-1.
Tarboro's third seed did her part and more. Michele Nguyen shut out her opponent and dominated both sets. Nguyen defeated Anna Webb, 6-0, 6-0.
