MMS Vikings finish 13-1

TARBORO — The Martin Middle Vikings boy's basketball team finished the season with a 13-1 record. Their only loss came in the championship game of the Tri-County tournament when they lost 61-50 to Edwards Middle.

Martin Middle had beaten Edwards twice earlier in the season, but mistakes and missed free throws down the stretch were the downfall for the Vikings.

Tae Randolph led the Vikings in scoring. He averaged over 11 points per game and Joe Lyons added 10 per game.

Jacoby Ward and Zion Brooks led the team in rebounding, grabbing six per game.

Deontre Williams was the catalyst on defense for the Vikings. He averaged over three steals per game.

Vikings coach Pat Miller was pleased with his team's performance this season. He guided them to a 13-game win streak before it was snapped in the championship game.

All of the players on the basketball team were also part of the football team this past year, where their combined record for both sports were 19-2.

Miller said the players wanted to thank the parents, fans and school for their support this season.

Other players on the team were Trey Lancaster, Christ Pittman, Phillip Willoughby and Clifton Joyner, who Miller labeled a super-sub.
