Local prep tennis results

TARBORO — The Tarboro Vikings tennis team improved their record to 6-1 after two victories this week. They defeated Beddingfield 8-1 Monday and Farmville Central 7-2 Tuesday.

The only matches that the Vikings lost were in doubles. They have completely took over the conference in singles matches and have defeated their opponents handily every time out.

Against Beddingfield, Tarboro lost on one set in singles.

Tarboro's No. 1 seed Lane Long continues to dominate his opponents. he won both matches this week in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

The Vikings No. 2 and 3 seeds routed their opponents both days as well. Paul Nguyen and Robbie Collins shutout both of their opponents in their two respective matches.

On Tuesday the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars were defeated by the Kinston Vikings 8-1. The Cougars fall to 2-5 this season.

The only match that the Cougars were able to pull off was at No. 1 seed in singles. Alexander Derby defeated Dan Hoang 6-4, 3-6 and won on a tiebreaker 10-6.

Cougars coach Joel Elliott said the difference in the match was the fundamental mechanics, which he said is something thankfully they can work on.
