Viking swimmers improve

TARBORO — ROCKY MOUNT – The Tarboro Vikings swim team participated in their third meet of the young season last Wednesday and had great results. The meet was once again held at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount and teams from the Big East 3A Conference and the Eastern Plains 2A Conference were competing.

The following are results for the Viking swimmers:

Girls

200-yard medley relay team: Kaylyn Norville, Anna Johnson, Chandler Harris & Victoria Modlin (first place)

200-yard freestyle: Victoria Modlin (third place) qualified for regionals

200-yard individual medley: Anna Johnson (first place) qualified for regionals

50-yard freestyle: Victoria Modlin (third place)

100-yard butterfly: Kaylyn Norville (third place)

100-yard freestyle: Anna Johnson (second place), Rachel Tanhauser (third place)

500-yard freestyle: Chandler Harris (first place) qualified for regionals

200-yard freestyle relay team:  Kaylyn Norville, Anna Johnson, Chandler Harris & Victoria Modlin

100-yard backstroke: Rachel Tanhauser (second place), Katie King (fifth place)

100-yard breaststroke: Chandler Harris (first place) qualified for regionals

400-yard freestyle relay team: Katie King, Anna Keck Moore, Rachel Tanhause & Kaylyn Norville (third place)

Boys

200-yard freestyle: Cameron Anderson (first place) qualified for regionals

50-yard freestyle: Matthew Thompson (third place)

100-yard freestyle: Matthew Thompson (fifth place)

500-yard freestyle: Cameron Anderson (first place) qualified for regionals

100-yard backstroke: Evan Vercoe (fourth place)

     Varsity swim coach Michelle Harris wanted the students and staff at Tarboro High School to give the swimmers encouragement, while stating "Remember, swimming is the only sport with no half times, no substitutions, no timeouts, and you only get one shot for your goal."

The Vikings next meet is Friday at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, with the first event due to start at 4 p.m.
