Tarboro Viking Cameron Anderson won his third 1-A/2-A NCHSAA state swimming championship Thursday in Cary at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Anderson was the only swimmer out of the 10 who qualified in the 10 events to reach the championship finals round. The other individual swimmers and relay teams finished in the finals consolation or didn't advance out of the preliminaries.
Anderson blasted through the waters with a quick jump off the starting block in the 50-yard freestyle event and raced to a finish of 21.66, which was .05 seconds faster than Zach Lewis of Raleigh Charter, who finished with a time of 21.71.
Anderson wasn't as fortunate in the 100-yard freestyle event, where he finished fourth and 1.17 behind the champion Will Macmillian of Carrboro, who finished with a time of 46.35. Macmillan also defeated Anderson in Monday's Eastern Regionals, where they both earned their spots in Thursday's event.
Anderson won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events last year in the state meet.
