CHARLES EDWARD HILL

TARBORO —  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

– 2 Timothy 4:7

Charles Edward Hill, 72, died Thursday, February, 21, 2013.  Charles was born November 10, 1940 in Lenoir County to the late Tommie and Effie Hill.

Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy Anderson Hill; his son, Charles Edward Hill Jr of Kenly, N.C.; daughter, Regina Faye Isacc-Hill and husband Stephen of Eugene, Ore.; stepson Arthur Robert Thompson IV of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jessica Christine Hill, Holly Amber Hill and Charles Henry Isaac; great grandchild, Peyton Rose Hill-Tanner; his sister, Virginia Hill Ballard and husband Gary of New Bern; two brothers, David Paul Hill and wife Juliann of Richlands; and Sherwood Hill and wife Marcia of Chester, Va.  Charles also leaves behind to cherish his memory numerous friends and nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Precious.

Charles graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971. He dedicated 32 years of service to his country in the U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, serving in Desert Storm in 1991.  He was a longtime employee of Carolina Telephone/ Sprint.  

He was a faithful member of St. James United Methodist Church, involved in many capacities through the years.  He was currently a member of the Men’s Choir and serving with the Lay Shepherding Ministry and was active with the Acts group.  He gave tirelessly to his community.  This included service to the Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum, volunteer work with Hospice and Lieutenant Governor of N.C. Kiwanis.  Charles was the founder of Golden K Kiwanis in Tarboro.  

The family wishes to thank those all served as “stretcher-bearers” (Mark 2) during Charles’ final journey.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 24 at Carlisle Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James UMC,  211 East St. James St. Tarboro, NC.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum, P.O. Box 115, Tarboro, N.C. 27886 or St. James United Methodist Church, 211 East St. James St. Tarboro, NC 27886.  

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro.
