Susie Anna Mosley-Parker entered eternal rest at the home of her son in St. Augustine, Fla., on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013. A memorial service will be held Oct. 26 in Florida. She was preceded in death mother Olivia and father, John Henry Mooring, and brother John Henry Mooring Jr.
Susie was born in Edgecombe County near Bethel, N.C. on May 24, 1922 to John Henry and Olivia Jones Mooring. Susie was the second of 10 children. She attended Oak City Elementary and Washington Elementary School in Washington, N.C. She completed the 11th grade at W.C. Chance High School in Parmalee, N.C., and 12th grade at Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount, N.C. After high school, she attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C., and received a BS degree in home economics from Storer College in Harpers Ferry, Va.
After graduation, Susie received a teaching job in Gainesville, Ga. at Beulah Rucker Oliver Industrial School. During this time she met Marshall Mosley, from Rome, Ga. They married and settled in Rome.
To this union were born one son, William Patrick Mosley. Susie taught at several schools in and around Rome. Having committed her life to Christ at an early age, she united with Lovejoy Missionary Baptist Church and served on the missionary board. Following Marshall's death, she remained in Rome and taught at Main Elementary School, where she retired in June 1980.
Susie moved back to North Carolina after retirement, settling in Henderson. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking and sewing, especially quilting. She was a member of Rome Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, the order of Eastern Star, Daughters of Isis, Golden Age and the adult quilting club. During all this leisure time, she decided to marry again, this time to Horace Parker of Greenville, N.C.
Following the death of Horace, her health deteriorated, and she moved to Palm Coast and St. Augustine, Fla. with her son.
Susie is survived by one son, William Patrick Mosley (Julia) of St. Augustine, Fla.; two grandsons, Antoina, William P. Mosley II (Chyrisse); two great-grandsons, William P. Mosley III and Derrick Mosley of Atlanta, Ga.; eight siblings, sister Marry Cotten and brother Crumel Mooring of Oxford, N.C., sister Lizzie Mooring of Princeville, N.C., brother Cornelius Mooring of Oxford, N.C., brother Jesse, sister Mattie and broher Issac Mooring of Tarboro, N.C., sister Marie Cotten of East Orange, N.J.; sister-in-law, Vernelle Shropshire of Lafayette, Ga.; brother-in-law, Augustus Lee Mosley of Rome, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
