RALEIGH — Fred Lewis Tolson, 75, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, after a five-year battle with cancer. His strong faith in Jesus Christ assures us he was welcomed into Heaven.

Fred was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Edgecombe County. He was the son of the late Thomas Lester Tolson Sr. and Effie Mae Proctor Tolson. He was a graduate of the N.C. State University School of Design, and served as founder and president of Architects Tolson Associates, Inc. in Raleigh for more than 30 years.

Fred is survived by his wife of 18 years, Amy Dunn Tolson; sons DeVon Lewis Tolson (Cas Shearin) and Christopher Van Buren Tolson, of Raleigh; grandchildren Alex Van Buren Tolson and AnnMarie Caroline Tolson, of Raleigh; former wife, Linda Sumerlin Snyder (Bill Snyder), of Raleigh; siblings Eva Louise Tolson Sugg (Norfleet Sugg), Edward Norris Tolson (Betsy Tolson) and Joe Pat Tolson (Janice Tolson), all of Pinetops, and Milton House Tolson (Dottie Tolson), of Tarboro. Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Nora Mae Tolson Flanagan (Ned Flanagan), of Gastonia; and brothers Thomas Lester Tolson Jr. (Joyce Tolson) and William Dock Tolson, both of Pinetops.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Crossroads Fellowship, 2721 Millbrook Road, in Raleigh. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Pineview Cemetery, NC Highway 42 in Pinetops.
