JAMES CLIFTON PATE

TARBORO — TARBORO — James Clifton Pate, 86, a loving, faithful, and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend joined his Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven’s glory Monday, September 9, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Colleyville, Texas.

Celebration of life: Friday, 2:00 P.M. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Dr. Bill Weaver of Shady Grove Baptist Church in North Richland Hills, Texas, officiating. Interment: Edgecombe Memorial Park. Visitation: Thursday, 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at Carlisle Funeral Home.

James Clifton Pate was born May 27, 1927, in Williamston. He was the son of Charles and Zaida Pate. James Clifton was a longtime resident of Tarboro. He honorably served in the United States Maritime Services during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and NASCAR racing. Clifton was a man with a strong and gentle spirit; a man of few words who spoke volumes through his actions. We all loved him dearly and our lives were truly blessed by being with him.

Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 55 years, Eileen Bunting Pate, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors: Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Judy Brown and son-in-law Herbert Brown, Jr. of Colleyville, Texas; son James C. Pate, Jr. and daughter-in-law Pamela B. Pate of Myrtle Beach, SC; son Ronald D. Pate and daughter-in-law Lucy C. Pate of Rocky Mount, NC; granddaughter Dr. Beverly Bishop-Magnuson and husband Craig Magnuson of Colleyville, Texas; granddaughter Heather Ross and husband Dustin Ross of Mansfield, Texas; grandson Dr. H. Cleighton Brown and wife Shannon Brown of Colleyville, Texas; granddaughter Christina Whitehurst and husband Gil Whitehurst of Wilson, NC; granddaughter Virginia Whitaker and husband Kevin Whitaker of Kennesaw, Ga.; granddaughter Ashley E. Pate of Rocky Mount, NC; granddaughter Julianna Pate of Rocky Mount, NC; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother Samuel Luther Pate of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and two sisters Libby Travis of Williamston, NC and Shirley Hoyt of Chesapeake, Va.
