TARBORO — William H. Leggett, Sr., 71, died on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Vidant Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.  Bill was born in Edgecombe County on July 30, 1942 to Herman Grover Leggett and Katie Marie Johnson Leggett.

Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving family including his wife, Rose Cash Leggett; three sons, William (Bill) Leggett, Jr. of Farmville;  Lee Leggett (Cecelia) of Goldsboro and Timmy Leggett (Karen) of Greenville; A sister, Peggy L. Harrell (Wayne) of Tarboro, brothers Mike Leggett (Judy) of Wilson and Walter Leggett (Donna) of Holly Springs; nieces Kelly H. Cannon of Tarboro and Karen H. Cobb of Greenville; nephews Grant Leggett of Hampstead and Kevin Leggett of Sims, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Billy was one of the best diesel field mechanics who loved working on and repairing logging equipment.  He always loved anything with a motor on it and built “hot rods” when he was a young boy.  He sat under the hood of cars and trucks when he was very young and figured out how they worked and knew everything there was to know about engines.  He could repair anything.  He was one of the most giving, caring people you could ever meet, and got satisfaction from doing for others.  He loved spending time with his brothers, laughing about the many fun memories of family vacations and gatherings.  He always managed to keep the family entertained.

A graveside service was officiated by Rev. Mike Barnett on Saturday under the direction of Carlisle Funeral Home.  Bill was laid to rest beside his parents at Ebenezer Baptist Churchyard in Whitakers.
