TARBORO — Joyce Gurley Lamb, 82 of Tarboro, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 8, 2013. A native of Goldsboro, Joyce was the daughter of Jessie H. Gurley and Flonnie L. McClenny. She was a graduate of East Carolina College with a degree in elementary education and realized her passion for teaching with a distinguished career as an educator with the Edgecombe County Public School System. She was a devoted supporter of her community and a long-time member of the Edgecombe Garden Club. A member of the First Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing with the choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford J. Lamb.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Emma "Teenie" McCoy; daughters, Terry Lamb Pitt and Olivia Lamb; grandchildren, Taylor Pitt and Liam Carmody and sons-in-law, Mike Pitt and Joseph Carmody.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 18 at Carlisle Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro.
The family will receive visitors immediately following the graveside service at the Fountains of the Albemarle in Tarboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tarboro or the Foster Children's Program of Edgecombe County Department of Social Services.
