MILDRED WAGONER LAWRENCE

TARBORO — TARBORO — Mildred Wagoner Lawrence, 97, died Sunday, May 12, 2013.  She was born in Alleghany County on Feb. 27, 1916 to the late Finis Teleutes Wagoner and Selina Bledsoe Wagoner. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital and Queens College, Charlotte, as a registered nurse. She retired from the Edgecombe County Schools.

Mrs. Lawrence (Millie) was an active and long-time member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served on many committees as a Deacon, Elder,Church School Teacher and as a Life Member of the Presbyterian Women.  Her life was one of humility, quiet service, gentleness, compassion and love for others.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Rufus Earl Lawrence, Jr.; one son, John Earl Lawrence; one daughter, Ann Lawrence and a sister Kathleen Wagoner Cogswell.  Surviving her are a daughter, Frances Lawrence Harris and husband Tyler of Richmond Va.; a son, William Wagoner Lawrence and wife Karen of Raleigh; and a daughter-in-law, Diane B. Lawrence of Southern Pines. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ann Lawrence Jones of Pittsboro; Katherine Harris McCart of Alexandria, Va.; Rendall Lawrence Harris of Richmond, Va.; Tyler Rendall Harris, Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla.; Emily Hart Lawrence of San Francisco, Calif.; Elizabeth Lawrence Ramsey of Gulfport, Miss.; Margaret Nicolls Lawrence of Raleigh; Robert Benjamin Lawrence of Philadelphia, Pa.; Lina Kira Lawrence of Denver, Colo/.; and six great-grandchildren, Watson Jones, Anna McCart, Caroline McCart, Harris McCart, Henry Harris, and Johnny Lawrence.

At the time of her death Millie was a resident of The Fountains at the Albemarle in Tarboro.  Her family is so appreciative of the love and care given to her by her Albemarle family, particularly the nurses, caregivers and staff of Assisted Living.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013  at the Memorial Garden at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 East St. James Street, Tarboro, 27886.
