James Franklin Murfee, Sr. 84, of Tarboro died at home on February 2, 2014. The son of Hugh and Mary (Allen) Murfee. James was born in Roanoke Rapids on Jan.20, 1930. He was married to Daisie Anne Manuel for over 60 years.
James was a Tech Sergeant in the USAF for over 20 years. He was in charge of missile maintenance for the Boeing Bomarc missile. The family was stationed in four different states, Okinawa and Japan. James also served in Korea and Thailand.
While in the service he was on the USAF competitive Skeet Shooting team. He enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, gardening and shooting pool.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Rex) Dickey, York, Neb., Sylvia Brown, Tarboro, N.C.; brothers Ray (Peggy) Murfee, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Horace (Ruby) Murfee, Dunn, N.C. and sister Edna Murfee, Henrico, N.C.; sister in law Peggy Murfee, N. Chesterfield Va.; grandchildren, Donovan Ahrens, Corvallis, Or., Shana (Jace) Schanou, Kearney, Neb., Jennifer Lundstrom, Omaha, Neb., Jay Hale, April Hale and Brandy Murfee of Tarboro, N.C.;. great grandchildren, Preston, Ethan, Chloe, Athan, Kyla, Jordy, Shianna, Hannah and Payten. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Daisie; son, James, Jr.; infant son; sister, Perneecie (Arthur) Marshall and brother Ernest (Peggy) Murfee.
A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Feb. 4 in Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro.
