Carl Nathaniel Doughtie, 93, died Monday, July 5, 2010 in his home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the mausoleum at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Carl was a lifelong resident of Edgecombe County and was born June 4, 1917 to Willie Lewis and Maude Clark Doughtie.
Carl was a true gentleman, known for his integrity and character and had a deep love for family and friends. He lived his life until the end with great courage, a strong will and a sly wit which he displayed to the end.
He had a passion for cutting wood, a love he passed on to his son.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Alford Doughtie; a son, Carl Louis Doughtie; three brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his loving family, including a son, John Douglas Doughtie and wife, Peggy, of Bethel; and grandson, Carl Louis Doughtie of the home. Other survivors include brother, Dodson Doughtie of Murfreesboro and many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Heart to Heart Home Health, as well as Maurice and Helen Werdegar and family of Woodside, Ca., for making this possible.
