TARBORO — GREENVILLE — Richard M. Kleintop, 87, of Brooksville, Florida, formerly of Allentown, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2012 in the Vidant Service League Inpatient Hospice, Greenville.

He was the husband of Iris W. Kirkland Kleintop, the late Emily R. Snyder Kleintop, and the late Ruth E. Pape Kleintop. Richard faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University, class of 1949.

He was a general science teacher in the South Mountain Junior High School of the Allentown school district for 25 years before retiring in 1984. Prior to that he taught in the Pennsbury school district, Langhorne, Pa., for two years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, Florida and he was a member of the Scottish Rite Free Masonry of Allentown, Pa. He was a professional skier and directed a ski school in the Poconos Mountains at Big Boulder. He was an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church U. S. A. and he was a member of the Sons of the Revolution. He became an avid fisherman while living in Leggett, N.C.

His survivors, in addition to his wife, Iris, are stepdaughters Gretchen Marshall pf Jackson, Mich., Janis Anthes of New Durham, N. H., Dr. Alice Mills of Lexington, Ky., and three step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at William and Mary Hart Presbyterian Church in Leggett, N. C. at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 with the Rev. Ronn McCracken officiating. A graveside service will be held at the Grandview Cemetery in Allentown, Pa. at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2012.
