KATIE LOUISE WEEKS SOWELL

FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER

TARBORO — TARBORO — Katie  Louise Weeks Sowell passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center on Friday, May 10, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tarboro Church of Christ with Pastor Don McKinney officiating.  Louise will then be laid to rest following the service in the family plot at the Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, with her parents, J. Stancil and Fannie Mae Weeks and two beloved brothers, Brinson R. Weeks, Sr. and Joseph Oliver Weeks.

Louise was a loving and compassionate lady who lived a long, happy life. Having been visually impaired, she attended and graduated from the State School for the Bind and the Deaf in Raleigh in 1949 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina College, now known as East Carolina University, in 1952.  She worked as a county social worker for the blind for many years and was able to understand and empathize with her clients.  She retired from Scotland County in 1983.

One of Louise’s happiest days was October 5, 1980 when she married the love of her life, George K. Sowell.  They were married 11 short years before he died with cancer.  She has been truly looking forward to being with him again in Heaven!

Louise will continue to be loved and missed by her nephew Brinson”Brent” Weeks, Jr. and wife, Anne Denton Weeks, nieces Sheila Weeks and Allison Weeks Turner and husband Chip, and great nieces Kelsey and Brooke Owens.  Louise also leaves behind many friends, former colleagues and clients who will always cherish the memories and times they shared with her.

The family would like to express a special thanks you to the staff  of the Golden Living Center in Tarboro.  Though her stay was brief, you all treated her like family.  God bless you all!

In lieu of flowers, Louise would appreciate if you would make a donation to your favorite charity or church.  She had many passions that were dear to her heart, but none was more important to her than her relationship with Jesus.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Carlisle Funeral Home and other times at the home of Brent and Anne Weeks.

Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home, Inc., Tarboro.
