Tarboro — Mamie Gray Newsome passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her home.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlisle Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Crowe and Rev. Dylan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mamie Gray was born March 29, 1917 in Edgecombe County to Van B. and Mamie S. Anderson.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Tarboro. She was dedicated to her career in accounting with the family owned business, Tarboro Oil Company, which was very rewarding and family-oriented.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Harrison “Harry” Newsome, and three sisters Mary Agnes Stroud, Ann Rebecca May and Margaret “Peggy” A. Owens, and three brothers Woody, Tommy and Wilson Anderson.
She is survived by a sister, Eleanor A. Silver of Garner, and two brothers, V. B. Anderson
and Earl Anderson, both of Tarboro, and many loving nieces and nephews, including her husband’s nieces and nephews, who were all very special to her.
The family will receive friends at other times at the home, 149 S. Fairview Circle.
