KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Joseph Dawson Armstrong, Jr. passed away October 25, 2013 in Knoxville, Tenn. He was born on September 18, 1929 and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Ann Armstrong, and a brother, Robert Bruce Armstrong, sister-in laws Norma Money Armstrong of Tarboro, NC, and Dorothy Marshall and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Cornelia Armstrong Thompson and his parents Joseph Dawson Armstrong, Sr. and Maima Fowle Armstrong.

Joe graduated from Knoxville High School in 1947 and attended the University of Tennessee and then entered the Air Force. After his tour of duty he married Kathryn Ann Marshall in 1955 and shortly after, began his career as an independent insurance adjuster with Gay and Taylor Insurance adjusters in Knoxville. In 1970, he and Kathryn moved to Hawaii and there he quickly became manager and then vice president of the John Mullen Company. In 1989, he and Kathryn moved back to his beloved Knoxville to return home and retire. While back home, Joe picked up fly fishing again with his close friends and brother Bruce, attended the UT football games and joined Cherokee Country Club so he could continue in the pursuit of 'the beautiful' game. Joe also had a great love of local animals in the forest.

A simple memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday October 30 at St. James Episcopal Church on Broadway, Knoxville, Tenn. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Young Williams Animal Shelter, Knoxville, Tenn.
