TARBORO — TARBORO — Bracey Frederick “Fred” Fountain, Jr., 79, died Monday, August 12, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro. Private interment in the churchyard of William & Mary Hart Presbyterian Church in Leggett will follow for immediate family members.

Fred was born in Edgecombe County on March 8, 1934 to Bracey F. Fountain of Leggett, Edgecombe County, and Elizabeth McGwiggan Fountain Darrow of Enfield, Halifax County.

Fred attended The Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Va., The Presbyterian Junior College, in Laurinburg, N.C., North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville where he majored in social studies. He pursued work in the textile industry until 1977 when he returned to Tarboro and opened The Wood Box, a building supply store. Later, he joined the staff of the Town of Tarboro as a personnel manager, eventually retiring in that capacity.

Fred enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking, photography, travel, classical music and was an avid reader.
