NORA ETTA HARRIS

ROCKY MOUNT — ROCKY MOUNT — Nora Etta (Sykes) Harris, 92, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, July 29, 2013.  She was born December 15, 1920 to Nora Turner Sykes and Robert F. Sykes in Enfield, NC, the youngest of 7 children.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Harris, and her children Samuel Bradley and Barbara Ann Hale, as well as 5 sisters and 1 brother and special family friend Linda Carbone.

She was raised in Tarboro and resided for many years in Alexandria, Va. During these years, she was employed by A & P grocery store where she worked in the meat department. Nora was a member of Plymouth Haven Baptist Church in Alexandria where she served as Sunday School teacher, Baptist Women groups, and shut-in service.  Nora was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior.   Upon her return to Tarboro, she was employed at W.S. Clark & Sons as well as Sarah Flowers.  She worked until she was 73 years old. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tarboro where she also served as Sunday School teacher, nursery worker and GA leader. She was a member of the American Legion Eason Tiney Auxiliary where she served as President several years, District and Division President and was nominated for State President. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women Club and served as President and Secretary.  She was a long time member of Woodmen of the World.  She was a member of Lioness Club where she also served as President, Secretary and Hostess.  She was also a member Dogwood Garden Club for many years.

Nora lived her life caring for others and being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to her family.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Hale Katzer (John) and two grandsons Dennis Hale (Pat) and Bradley Hale (Susan).  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Makenzie and Austin Katzer,  Dennis Wayne Hale, Jr., Justin Hale (Julie) and Brooks Hale (Kelly) and her great-great-grandchildren as well  Ashley, Briley, Cassy, Ryder, Zoe and Levi Hale.  She is also survived by special extended family members Marth (Randy) Eisenberg, Linda (Charlie) Thomas, Alice Hale, and Forrest (Angie) York.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3 in Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro with the Rev. Eric Crowe and Rev. Todd Green officiating.
