MADALYN MELTON GREEN

Jan. 28, 1933 – July 17, 2013

TARBORO — TARBORO — Madalyn Melton Green, 80, died peacefully at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro after a brief illness.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Caswell Shaw and Rev. Bobby Tyson officiating.

Madalyn suffered in immensurable pain for over three years to Post Herpetic Neuralgia due to shingles. The family encourages everyone at age 50 to contact their doctor about the shingles vaccination.

She was born in Edgecombe County to the late Clarence Brooks Melton, Sr., and Neta Bell Collins. In addition to her parents, Madalyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Pop” Green; and two brothers, Billy Collins and Jim Melton.

Madalyn is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Odell Harrison, and their daughter, Holly Harrison, of Tarboro; Nancy and Ron Katona, of Summerville, SC; and Karen Green, and fiancé, Curtis Edmondson, of Tarboro; one son, William “Buddy” Green, of Tarboro; and three grandsons, Milton Gray Sykes, Jr.; Charles Gregory Sykes, and his wife, Bethany, both of Tarboro; Landen Brooks Green, of Mansfield, Texas; and one special great granddaughter, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Sykes, of Tarboro, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by a loving brother, Clarence Brooks Melton, Jr., of El Cajon, Calif., and his children, Janis Himel, also of El Cajon, Calif; and Neal Melton, of Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition, she is also survived by many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Madalyn loved her family and friends and of course, shopping at Belk and Dollar General. She was an immaculate housekeeper and with the passing of her husband on February 22, 1998, she loved doing things her own way. She was also a very good cook and many good times were enjoyed around her kitchen table.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home, 1917 Barlow Rd., Tarboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you help others by making donations in Madalyn’s memory to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home, Inc., Tarboro.
