Roscoe S. Kirkland, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
Funeral Services will be conducted on 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Kirkland and the Rev. Parker Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Roscoe is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Anderson Kirkland.
He was the founder of People’s Termite & Pest Control Co., and served in the United States Army, serving in Gen. George Patton’s 3rd Army. Roscoe was an avid antique car enthusiast. He later was one of the founders of the Leggett Fire Department, and a charter member of the Leggett Ruritan Club. He believed in his community, his family, and friends.
He is survived by his loving family, including his daughter, Judith Allison “Jill” Kirkland, of Rocky Mount; sons, Charles Steven Kirkland, and wife, Debbie, of Nashville; Terry Loren Kirkland, and wife, Panis, of Tarboro; sister, Iris Kleintop, of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Frank Kirkland, of Greenville; grandchildren, Jonathan Kirkland, and wife, Leah, Andrew Kirkland, Timothy Kirkland, David Kirkland, and wife, Rebecca; great granddaughter, Avari Kirkland; special caregiver, Davita Frank
and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Carlisle Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 12.
