DONALD R. TAYLOR

Donald R. Taylor, Sr., 80, of Tarboro, departed this life to be at home with his Lord and Savior at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, 730 W. Wilson St. in Tarboro. A committal service will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Dr. Phil Dietz, Dr. Marc Tilley and the Rev. Jessie Blalock.

He retired from Southern States Cooperative and W.S. Clark and Sons as a chemical, fertilizer and farm supplies sales manager. Born in Rocky Mount to James Alton Taylor and Carrie Bailey Taylor, he made Edgecombe County his home throughout his life.  

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Maude Trevathan Taylor; a brother, Thomas Alton Taylor; a daughter-in-law, Beth Ann Taylor and a grand-daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Taylor.

Surviving are a son, Donald Ray "Donnie" Taylor Jr. of Dublin, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Buck Moye of Wake Forest; brothers Jesse Mack Taylor and wife Johnnie Faye Allsbrook Taylor of Tarboro, and James Gray Taylor and wife Ollie Stalls Taylor of Winston-Salem; sisters-in-law, Lucy Trevathan Breedlove, Annie Laura Trevathan and Vernice W. Taylor, all of Tarboro; grandchildren, Taylor Moye of Wake Forest and Tyler, Brenna and Paul Schaaf of Dublin, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews, and loving friend, companion and constant care-giver, Mary Alford.

Friends are invited to visit the family from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Tarboro and other times at the home.

Before his passing, Mr. Taylor wished to thank Keith and Gloria Bridges Warrick and the entire Bridges family, Larry and Marie Lee, Dr. Gilbert Alligood, Dr. Charles Middleton, his Heritage Hospital nurses and his many other friends, family and church family for their devoted care and expressions of concern during his illness.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Gideons International, Attention Memorial Bible Chairman P.O. Box 15 Tarboro NC 27886 or to the American Cancer Society.
