GREENVILLE — Miss Grace Carmen Whitehurst, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Brown Chapel at Cypress Glen. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Four Seasons Room at Cypress Glen.
Miss Whitehurst, a native of Edgecombe County, lived most of her life in Conetoe. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College and later received her masters in counseling from East Carolina College. She began her career in education as an English teacher and worked as a guidance counselor at Tarboro High School for more than 20 years.
Miss Whitehurst was a member of Conetoe United Methodist Church, and after making her home in Greenville in 1987, she became a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Miss Whitehurst was preceded in death by her parents, William Luther and Nancy Harris Whitehurst; and a sister, Louise Whitehurst Snowden.
She is survived by her: nieces, Nancy S. Soble and husband, David, of Alexandria, Va. and
LuAnn S. Sullivan and husband, Don, of Greenville; and a nephew, Terry Snowden and wife, Laura, of Greenville.
