Teenage suspects arrested for stealing commercial equipment

TARBORO — Two teenagers suspected in a number of thefts have been arrested after they stole numerous commercial items from the same residence within a two-week period.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office received a call that a larceny was in progress at a residence on Highway 124 near Crisp on Tuesday, but when deputies arrived, the suspects had left with unknown items.

Deputies later learned a commercial refrigerator, commercial freezer, multiple air conditioning units, multiple vehicle engines and various items of scrap metal were taken.

As the investigation continued, deputies found 18-year old Brent Stilley, of 75 Brown Farm Road and 17-year old Jermaine Jenkins, of 203 Sally Jenkins St., both of Pinetops, trying to sell the items at a local business.

Stilley and Jenkins were both arrested and charged with two counts of felony larceny and two counts of felony conspiracy. They were both placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $165,000 secured bond.

Both suspects had their first appearance in district court Wednesday.
