Surveillance footage leads to man's arrest

TARBORO — A local man was arrested Saturday after breaking into the WMB Quick Shoppe on North Main Street Friday night after the business had closed.

The owner noticed his business had been broken into when he came to work Saturday morning and saw the front door had been smashed in. The owner contacted police, who came to the store and took a report for injury to property, because the owner hadn't noticed anything missing when police responded.

The owner looked back at surveillance footage later that day and saw that the suspect had smashed in the front door and crawled into the store. Later, the owner saw the suspect leave the business with an unidentified object in his hand. The owner was able to identify the suspect, because he had frequented the store. The suspect was identified as 23-year old David Earl Harrison, Jr., of Lot 20 Mobile Home Estates Trailer Park.

The owner contacted police to come back tot he business after the findings and told them that he had discovered an undisclosed amount of money was missing.

Police arrested Harrison and charged him with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property. He was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond.

Harrison was due in court today for his first appearance on the charges.

This wasn't Harrison's first run-in with law enforcement concerning theft. According to the N.C. Department of Corrections website, Harrison is currently on probation for five larceny convictions and a breaking and entering a motor vehicle conviction in January 2012. All of those charges were pled down to misdemeanors. Harrison was given 24 months of probation on those cases after they were consolidated.

Harrison also has prior convictions for misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny from 2011.
