Golden LivingCenter celebrates ‘Gold’ award

HOBGOOD — Golden LivingCenter has received the industry’s highest quality honor. The skilled nursing facility has earned the Gold – Excellence in Quality National Quality Award, presented by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL).

Golden LivingCenter will celebrate its receipt of the Gold Quality Award at an open house event from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday on the center’s grounds, 1000 Western Blvd.

“We welcome our friends and families in the community to come tour Golden LivingCenter,” said facility executive director Effie Webb. “We have built a tradition of community involvement and we welcome anyone and everyone from our community to come celebrate with us. We are excited to share the good news of being selected as a Gold recipient.”

The center will be open for those who wish to take a tour of the facility at Thursday’s event. Neil Kurtz, president and CEO of Golden Living, will give remarks at the open house. Attendees will also have an opportunity to sample appetizers such as Italian-style “Antipasti” breads, and spreads created by Golden Living’s executive chef and director of dining, Darin Leonardson.

Golden LivingCenter of Tarboro is one of only five skilled nursing facilities of the 16,000 nationwide to receive the Gold award this year, and one of only 18 long-term care facilities to have earned the award since the National Quality Award program began in 1996.

“The centers that have earned this award are a testament to what can be done when our focus remains on providing high-quality, person-centered care,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “The staff, leadership, and community at Golden LivingCenter-Tarboro have improved the lives of their residents, and their commitment to quality deserves to be recognized.”

Webb said the criteria for the quality award are based on the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, and are built on “continuous improvement.” The quality awards begin at the bronze level, then progress to the silver level, and finally the gold level.

“I’m very proud of what we do. We have consistently been a provider of good care,” Webb said. “We provide short-term rehab and long-term skilled care. We’re able to provide a very positive service for the community.”

With 159 patients, Golden LivingCenter is the largest Golden Living facility in North Carolina. The center opened its doors in 1976. Webb said the facility provides a transition from the hospital to home or health care.

“All of us in the healthcare field are partnering together for the best interest of the patients in their healthcare needs at that time,” Webb said.
