TARBORO — The North Carolina District of Pilot International has chosen Camp Carefree in Stokesdale for its district project for the past five years. Camp Carefree is a weekend camp for brain-injured adults and is held each year in September. The Brain Injury Association of North Carolina Plans and Manages the camp and Pilot Clubs from across the state support it by providing supplies and funds to sponsor a camper and volunteer hours.

Campers are treated to arts and crafts, fishing, canoeing and rock wall climbing. Other activities include a Friday night dance, a Saturday sing-a-long and support sessions for survivors and caregivers. Meals are prepared and served by a local church group and Pilot volunteers.

This year, Tarboro Pilots Ammie Edmondson, Jane Gurley Harper, Phyllis Talbot and Carolyn Worden volunteered for the weekend. Kimbo King and Katie King joined in this year to help the campers with the various activities.
