Cofield named ECPS employee of the month

TARBORO — Ava Cofield, administrative assistant to associate superintendent Karen Dameron, was named the Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) employee of the month for February.

Cofield has served in her role in the operational services division at the central office for the past seven years. She began her tenure at ECPS in 2001 as the secretary and bookkeeper for West Edgecombe Middle School before joining the central office in 2003 as the office assistant in the student support services department.

The anonymous person who nominated Cofield described her as a “knowledgeable, resource, kind and genuine person who goes above and beyond to make a difference at ECPS.”

Cofield has been married for 23 years and has two sons, one daughter-in-law and one grandson. She graduated from Tarboro High School and also has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Augustine’s College. She says a goal she has in mind at this point in her career is to retire in a few years and devote more time to her family. She also wants to volunteer at the local nursing home’s Alzheimer’s unit in honor of the special care others gave to her mother during her battle with the disease.
